transpower provides a connection on the high seas
By the year 2020, the share of renewable energies of the total power consumption is to increase to 30 percent. Thereafter, it is to increase continuously. In the year 2030, around half the electricity in Germany shall originate from renewable energies. Here the most important contribution will be made by wind power.
As there is limited land space available for wind parks, the major growth area will be 'out at sea', and so-called offshore wind farms will come into being. 21 such wind farms have currently been approved in the North Sea.
Since December 2006, we have been legally required to construct and operate grid connections for offshore wind farms. This task is performed by our subsidiary, transpower offshore gmbh. On behalf of transpower stromübertragungs gmbh, it performs the planning and construction of connection lines at sea up to the grid junction point on land. transpower has been working on this project at full steam to provide the first network connections when they are needed.
