transpower is actively involved in mainly the following projects:
- Connection of the alpha ventus wind farm as an individual 100-kV three-phase alternating current connection (finished)
- First HVDC connection between an offshore wind farm and the maximum voltage network - connecting the BARD Offshore 1 wind farm.
- horizontal drilling in preparation for the second HVDC connection between offshore wind parks and the extra high voltage grid of the BorWin2 project
- preparations for further HVDC connections between offshore wind parks and the extra high voltage grid of the DolWin1, HelWin1 and SylWin1 projects
Between summer 2007 and spring 2008, an empty conduit structure was erected on the island of Norderney for these projects as well as coming projects on a length of 1.5 kilometres which crosses the island. The first cable for alpha ventus was placed in these ductworks in June 2008.
In addition, horizontal drilling took place in summer 2007 (HD drilling / from HDD = horizontal directional drilling)
Passing under the beach, the dune protections and the dyke on Norderney and in Hilgenriedersiel.
In 2008, the new Hagermarsch transformer station was put into operation for the grid connection of alpha ventus, and the cable was laid on the land and at sea. Parallel to this, the HD drilling from the previous year, which was carried out on Norderney and the mainland during, was exposed in order to establish a connection between the offshore and onshore cables with so-called bushings. Commissioning was effected in May 2009.
In June 2008, work on laying the first subsection of the onshore cable began in the borough of Aurich for BorWin1 to connect the BARD Offshore 1 wind farm. The HD drilling was also commenced for this project in summer 2008. The route passed under the Ems during work on the onshore transmission route in October 2008. The horizontal drilling procedure was also used for this purpose. In technical terms, this is a very demanding endeavour as a result of its length of 1,330 metres. At the end of October 2008, the cable section had already been installed in the steel conduits which had been welded together specifically for this purpose and which were introduced in the borehole.
The converter station on an offshore platform, was installed at sea at the beginning of June 2009 (see logbook). At the same time the offshore transformer station and the Diele transformer station were expanded and modified. DC energy will be transformed there into Alternating Current and fed into the grid. In addition, laying of the onshore cable began in spring 2009 in the borough of Leer. In the summer first of all cable was laid in the tidelands, then followed (in two phases, July and October) the laying of the sea cable, measuring some eleven centimetres in diameter, out to our BorWin alpha converter station. The technical installations by transpower are so far completet. The test and trial operation successively started. Also already done the following the transformer station of BARD. The final commissioning of the network connection takes place only after the establishment of wind farms in the spring / summer 2010.
transpower is also preparing further grid connections for offshore wind parks with the BorWin2, DolWin1, HelWin1 and SylWin1 projects. To this purpose, converter stations in Dörpen and Büttel are planned as additional points of delivery. Necessary planning determination processes for the lines leading from offshore to the respective point of delivery are also already in progress.
In the summer of 2010, transpower will carry out seven horizontal drilling procedures offshore in preparation for BorWin2 on Norderney and on the mainland, into which the cables for the grid connection will be placed in the subsequent course of the project. At the same time, the initial preparations for the converter stations offshore and on land, as well as for the laying of buried and undersea cable, are being made in order to be able to provide additional grid connections in a timely fashion.
